Everyone seems to be searching for the perfect skincare routine nowadays. Everywhere you look, someone is trying to get that glowing complexion with minimal effort. Some people can tackle a 10-step skincare routine both morning and night, while others are more inclined to find something quick and easy, yet effective. I can’t stress enough how important it is to find what works for you and your lifestyle! Caring for your skin is a step you take daily to take care of yourself. Self-care benefits your body and your mind, but only if you truly listen to what your body needs.

If you’re looking to finally nail down a skincare routine, or if you just want to freshen up whatever you currently do, trying a new skincare product can up your self-care game. You likely don’t know where to begin and which products to choose, so let’s have a look at some of the things you need to know before trying out a new skincare product.

Your Skin Type

Do you have oily or dry skin? Do you have combination skin where some areas are oily and others are dry? What is your current skincare routine? Before you purchase any skin care products, you should think about the way your skin looks and feels daily. What struggles are you experiencing and what problems would you like to solve? Map out a goal of what you want to achieve with your new skincare routine and then start looking for products that are geared towards your skin type or your skin goals.

Ask Around

One of the easiest ways to find the best products of any kind is to ask around! Talking to people that you trust (and maybe are a little jealous of their skin!) can be super beneficial when you’re looking for new skincare products. Think of this as getting real life reviews. Whenever you buy something online, it is common that you will look at written reviews for personal opinions and accounts of the product. Well this is really helpful, especially with skin care products where people can share photo results with their review, you might not know how honest these people are.

Friends, family members, and coworkers are people that you encounter on the daily and most likely trust. Because of this, it is easier to look to them for guidance. it can't hurt to ask around to find out what products everybody is using. You may find that a lot of people use the same product, so anything you see that they all have in common might be beneficial to your skin. I love talking about beauty products with my friends when I find something that really works for me!

Do Your Homework

Once you figure out what type of product you're looking for and you have an idea of some of the products that work for people like you, don't forget to do some extra homework. I know this stuff is a little time consuming and frustrating, but it is the most necessary one. Pause and take some time to look into the ingredients and side effects of whatever product you're using. This can be especially beneficial if you have any allergies or sensitivities. Take special note of fragrance and other features of the products, as they may irritate your skin. If you have sensitive skin, look at some products that are manufactured specifically for people with skin allergies or sensitivities. Many products are vegan and cruelty-free In today's industry. If this is something that is important to you, make sure you look for that when you are searching for your new products.

Try-On Tips

After you've figured out the makeup of your products and the potential benefits and harm they can do to your skin, it's time to assess whether or not you want to give them a shot. The first tip for trying any new skin care product is to only test on a small patch of your skin, typically on your arm or leg. The skin on your arms and legs is not that sensitive, so you may have a different reaction if whatever product you're using will be more harsh on your face. Make sure you understand where the product is supposed to be applied, and how much. If it is not supposed to be used on the face, don't use it on your face! Facial products can be tested on your arm or leg, so if there is a reaction, it will not harm your face.

Each product usually comes with instructions, so follow them carefully to ensure the results you want. The beauty of today’s industry is that you can usually find YouTube video reviews or tutorials on just about any product on the market! It’s a great way to hear what other people are saying and how they make their skin care products work for them. You may learn something from them, and you may not.

As a busy mom and entrepreneur, I love finding tips and tricks to decrease the time I spend doing anything! My skincare routine is a chance for me to slow down and take a moment to myself, but I definitely benefit from quick routines and efficient products. I’m constantly on the hunt for new products to incorporate into my daily routine to make life just a little easier. With a little research, communication, and trial & error, you can find just what works for you, too!
