In our world today, social media plays a significant role in most things that we do.
We use it to stay up to date on the news, the latest fashion trends, and what’s going on with our friends and family. We use it to keep up with celebrities, talk to other people about our favorite TV shows, share songs that we like on our Instagram stories. We use it to share our lives — documenting little moments as we go.
Social media can be a great way to stay connected.
Unfortunately, it can also be a downer.
On social media, we see these pictures of perfect people, perfect bodies, and perfect everything and we think to ourselves — why can’t I have that? Why can’t I look like that?
Negative self-talk begins to take over your inner dialogue and you start to feel bad about yourself.
Beauty standards and expectations are already stressful. Adding age into the mix can make you feel even more stressed.
I’m here to remind you of something that’s not only true but can help turn around your negative self-talk.
Repeat after me— aging is beautiful. It’s a natural, wonderful thing.
The quicker you embrace it, the happier you will feel.
Hear this all the time, but you can’t believe it? Aging happens to everyone. No matter how much some of us don’t want to age, it’s inevitable. But, that doesn’t make it any less special.
We shouldn’t fear age because it’s a wonderful thing. We’ve grown over the years from life experiences, laughter, and memories made with loved ones. We learn from our mistakes and we continue to grow as people. Our looks may change over time — but why not embrace your appearance and remind yourself of everything you’ve been through?
Sure there’ll be times when you look in the mirror and miss the person you were. You’ve got to change the way you speak to yourself. Your younger self is still within you, even if you may not be able to see them in the mirror.
Change the dialogue in your head. Practice affirmations that help boost your confidence. Remind yourself that those laugh lines are a clear indicator of a happy life. Embrace it. Embrace them.
Do what makes you feel beautiful. If that means putting on makeup every morning, highlighting your cheekbones, and wearing bright, illuminating eyeshadow — then do it. Makeup makes some of us feel extremely confident, and that’s great. You can still embrace your natural beauty as you age while wearing makeup.
Don’t feel like makeup is something you want to add to your daily routine everyday? Then don’t. You’ll still be beautiful.
Beauty is in all of us. No matter how we show it or see it. Embracing our natural beauty as we age is one of the most wonderful things we can do for ourselves and our confidence. We will appear happier, glowing from the inside out. That happiness will spread to other areas of your life.
You deserve to feel comfortable in your own skin. You deserve to feel beautiful. It’s time to allow yourself to feel it.
Beauty is about feeling comfortable in your own skin. However that may look for you — welcome it with open arms. Welcome aging with open arms. It’s inevitable, so why not age joyfully?
